The Good Fight
Growing up my dad would always say, “Son, you had better never start a fight but never run from one either.” It was just the way we were brought up. While in grade school, I had a few altercations and thus found myself in the principal’s office. After the rod of correction was administered by the principal I went home, if I indeed started the fight I proceeded to get a second whipping (whooping) from dad. If I was merely defending myself then I would receive my dad’s famous “atta boy”. I’m not condoning fighting but there is a good fight. It is the fight of faith, a fight we must win and win decisively. Paul as he prepared for execution shared with Timothy these words, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing,” 1 Timothy 4:7-8. The Good fight is a fight of faith. It is a fight to get and keep the faith and it is a fight to share it. This morning be encouraged that we are a vital part of the army of God. Let us be soldiers who never surrender, who never compromise and who fight to win.
